3 arrested after Hong Kong democracy protesters clash with police

For the first time in more than two weeks, Hong Kong pro-democracy protesters clashed with police in the densely populated district of Mong Kok early Thursday. Dozens of police armed with batons and shields faced off against hundreds of protesters, including more than 30 wearing grinning Guy Fawkes masks. The scuffles broke out after 2 a.m. local time, reportedly triggered by a protester who aimed a camera flash at police. According to the Wall Street Journal, police confirmed that three men were arrested, with one other taken to hospital with a head injury. Meanwhile, local television stations showed police pepper spraying the protesters. Students leading the protest are hoping to take it to Communist Party rulers in Beijing and are expected to announce details of their new battle plan on Thursday.
