Bangkok bombing suspect tells police he’s ‘guilty’ of holding explosives

A key suspect in last month’s deadly Bangkok bombing has been transferred to police custody after a week of military interrogation, and was asked to acknowledge the charge against him before police and the media. As flashbulbs went off Monday, police introduced an unusual twist by asking him whether or not he was guilty of the charge of co-possession of illegal explosives, as stated in his arrest warrant. The suspect, identified as Yusufu Mierili, responded through a translator: “Guilty.”

We have informed him of the charge. He acknowledged and confessed to the charge.

Mierili has not yet been formally charged. His nationality has also yet to be confirmed. Twenty people were killed in the August bombing near the Erawan shrine. Police have issued 10 arrest warrants but say they have yet to apprehend the main suspects in the blast.
