‘Day of Rage’ leaves at least two Israelis dead in several Palestinian attacks

Eighteen people were wounded, six seriously, when attackers opened fire and stabbed passengers on the bus in Jerusalem, medical sources say. Amid conflicting reports, two Israelis are said to have been killed in separate attacks in Jerusalem and in the city of Ra'anana. As the Day of Rage, as declared by Palestinian groups, dawned, two assailants are believed to have carried out the attack in the Armon HaNatziv neighbourhood in Jerusalem. One of the attackers is reported to be dead and the other has been detained.

Some local media are reporting up to 16 people injured in the Armon attack and there are reports of other attacks in Jerusalem which have not been confirmed.

The attack follows an earlier incident that took place in the Geula neighbourhood of Jerusalem in which five Israelis were reportedly injured in what has been described as a “running-over” and stabbing attack. Four Israelis and 26 Palestinians, including eight alleged attackers and eight children, have died in 12 days of bloodshed, the worst spell of street violence for years, stirred in part by Muslim anger over increasing Jewish visits to the al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem.
