Emergency meeting of European leaders called over migration crisis

The EU has called an emergency meeting of European leaders to address the growing migration crisis. The presidency of the Council of the European Union, currently held by Luxembourg, announced that the “extraordinary justice and home affairs” meeting will be held in two weeks time in Brussels. It comes after Home Secretary Theresa May released a joint statement with her counterparts from Paris and Berlin calling for an urgent meeting of interior ministers to discuss proposals about how to react to the surge of migrants and refugees reaching European borders.

The situation of migration phenomena outside and inside the European Union has recently taken unprecedented proportions.
