Fighter jet crash kills pilot in Russia’s ‘Red Arrows’ aerobatic display team

A pilot of the Russian air force’s elite aerobatic squadron died when the fighter jet he was flying crashed outside Moscow. Sergei Yeryomenko, from the Russian Knights display team - the country’s equivalent of the Red Arrows, was killed when the Su-27 jet went down while returning to its base in Kubinka, west of Moscow. The jet ploughed into the ground as it was flying in formation with five other planes. The crash occurred after a demonstration flight marking the opening of a monument to airmen near Moscow. It was caused by a technical problem - the plane is understood to have recently undergone factory repairs - preliminary reports suggest.
