Firefighters hurt as blaze rages at Paris science museum for six hours

A fire at one of Europe’s biggest science museums, the Cite des Sciences in Paris, was brought under control after raging for six hours on Thursday. The blaze, which was stopped from spreading through exhibit halls and the museum’s IMax movie theatre, left 10,000sq m of the sprawling Parc de Villette site damaged by fire or smoke. Two firefighters were slightly hurt tackling the flames, which sent a huge plume of smoke rising above the city. It was not known how the incident started but officials said one of the museum’s four horizontal cube structures had caught fire and the blaze had spread to the roof. Alarms at the site were switched off because of building work. More than 100 firefighters brought the blaze under control. One was treated for heat exposure, the other from smoke inhalation.
