Four killed in rocket strike on Medecins Sans Frontieres clinic in Yemen

Four people have been killed in a missile strike on a Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) clinic in Yemen. Ten others were injured in the blast at the medical centre in the Razeh district of Saada province. However, MSF could not confirm whether the centre was hit in an airstrike by the Saudi-led coalition, or by a rocket fired from the ground. Three of those injured were MSF staff and two of them were in a critical condition, the charity said.

This is the 3rd severe incident in the last 3 months. Our teams struggle on a daily basis to ensure the respect of health facilities.

Saada is the heartland of the Iran-backed Shia Huthi rebels who the coalition have been fighting since March last year in support of the Yemen government. Saudi-led airstrikes hit another of the agency’s medical centres in the province in October, destroying the building and injuring two staff members. Meanwhile, the UN envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed arrived Sunday in Sanaa in a bid to convince the rebels and their allies to attend fresh peace talks slated for next week.

There is no way that anyone with the capacity to carry out an airstrike or launch a rocket would not have known that the Shiara Hospital was a functioning health facility providing critical services and supported by MSF
