I’m proud of Bruce: Caitlyn Jenner poses on Sports Illustrated with Olympic gold

Caitlyn Jenner is appearing on the cover of Sports Illustrated wearing her gold medal 40 years after her 1976 Olympics decathlon win in Montreal. She told the magazine she had a complicated relationship with the medal and had kept it in drawers and in a safe, but never on display. Caitlyn – at the time Bruce Jenner – was featured on the SI cover in the August 9 1976 issue after winning gold. In her new interview, she said her masculine body at the time disgusted her, but that being macho was the way she tried to convince herself that she wasn’t really a woman.

I still love him today. I like what he did and the way he set an example for hard work and dedication.

The 66-year-old tells the magazine: “I’m proud of that part of my life. But this woman was living inside me, all my life, and it reached the point where I had to let her live and put Bruce inside. And I am happier, these last 12 months, than I’ve ever been in my life.” The special “Where Are They Now” double issue featuring Caitlyn will hit newsstands on Wednesday.
