Jeb Bush quits boards as he eyes the White House

Jeb Bush has stepped down from all of his corporate and non-profit boards, in another hint that he is preparing to run for the White House. The 61-year-old son of former president George HW Bush and younger brother of former president George W Bush announced last month he was actively exploring a 2016 presidential campaign. The former Florida governor, who is viewed as a moderate conservative, stepped down from his remaining board memberships on Wednesday, the last day of the year, according to an aide.

A natural next step as he turns his focus to gauging whether there is support for a potential candidacy.

However, he remains a partner in Jeb Bush And Associates, his business consulting company. Some of his professional affiliations could have politically compromised him in the event that he runs for president, say analysts. He recently quit a consulting deal with Barclays, the British bank, which paid him more than $1m a year, according to reports. The heir to the Bush family political dynasty is the first serious contender in the race for the 2016 Republican nomination.
