Notorious drug baron turns his prison cell into a luxury three-room suite

Prison authorities got a surprise when they raided a drug lord’s cell… and found a three-room luxury suite complete with library, kitchen, conference room and plasma TV. They were unaware of the life of ease being enjoyed by one of South America’s most dangerous drug traffickers, Jarvis Chimenes Pavao. His luxury digs were uncovered when he was suspected of making a bomb to blast his way out of the Tacumbu jail in the Paraguayan capital, Asuncion. Police poured into the prison to investigate and discovered his pimped out cell.

We’re going to demolish Chimenes Pavao’s cell and take measures against the prison directors who allowed this inmate to enjoy these privileges.

Justice minister Ever Martinez

Chimenes Pavao, who was serving eight years, was due for release next year but facing extradition back to Brazil on drug charges. He is thought to have bribed prison officials to build his “VIP cell,” as it was known to prisoners. It had air conditioning, stylishly tiled walls, plush furniture and a library complete with a DVD collection to watch on the big-screen plasma TV. The DVDs included the full collection of Pablo Escobar, a TV series on the feared Colombian kingpin who was killed in 1993 and was a hero of Chimenes Pavao’s. The discovery has already cost the job of justice minister Carla Bacigalupo. Chimenes Pavao has now been transferred to a cell in a police special operations unit.

He was the most loved man in this prison
