Pasta joke: Roadside ‘spaghetti piles’ were actually thousands of worms

Texas park rangers were astonished to come across weird clumps of worms, which they initially mistook for spaghetti, in the middle of a road. The mounds were discovered on 29 May in the centre of a double yellow line at Eisenhower State Park in Denison. The worms stayed for two days before heading back into the soil and leaving behind their droppings.

Even our biologist doesn’t know why they’re spaced so well and in the line.

Park Superintendent Ben Herman

Park Superintendent Ben Herman told ABC News: “We’re still puzzled why they decided to line up in the middle of the road. Park officials believe the worms were seeking refuge on dryer land from water-logged earth after heavy rains. No other Texas state parks reported the same phenomenon.
