Skydiver falls 14,000ft to his death after mid-air collision

A skydiver fell 14,000ft (4.3km) to his death after a mid-air collision with another skydiver in South Carolina, according to authorities. The body of 32-year-old Bond Springer, of Boca Raton, Florida, was found on Sunday near skydiving company Skydive Carolina, in Chester County. Authorities said Mr Springer and another experienced skydiver were doing advanced wing-suit manoeuvres during the final day of CarolinaFest - an event which features specialised jump teams - when they collided in mid-air. The other skydiver, Avalon Wolf, managed to deploy his parachute and landed with a broken leg.

Our community is saddened by the loss of a community member and choose to take this time to remember him quietly.

Officials have not said if Mr Springer’s parachute opened or not. An investigation has been launched. Skydive Carolina officials said they do not think any equipment malfunctioned. The accident took place on Saturday evening, but severe thunderstorms forced search teams to suspend their operation until Sunday. Sheriff’s deputies told WNCN that the area where Mr Springer’s body was found is being treated as a crime scene.
