Three NATO soldiers killed in Kabul suicide car bomb

A Taliban suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden car into a NATO convoy near the U.S. Embassy in Kabul on Tuesday, killing three soldiers and wounding at least 13 Afghan civilians in a massive blast. The nationalities of the dead soldiers were not confirmed. The attack was mounted during morning rush-hour traffic outside the Supreme Court and on a main road from the airport to the heavily fortified U.S. Embassy.

I rushed to help survivors. I picked up a local man who had a broken leg and was badly burnt. I carried him all the way to the hospital … but I don’t know if he survived.

Mustafa Saadat, 27, a member of the Afghan national rugby team and one of the first on the scene

In a separate attack in the country’s east, the International Security Assistance Force said Tuesday that one of its troops died after being shot by an individual wearing an Afghan army uniform. That raises the possibility that the service member died from a so-called insider attack carried out by an Afghan soldier, a serious problem over the last couple of years.
