Witnesses’ traumatised after double shooting at Australian McDonalds

A woman has died in an horrific double shooting at a fast food restaurant on the Gold Coast on Thursday. Staff and customers fled in terror after a man followed a woman into a McDonald’s at Helensvale around 9.15am (AEST) and shot her in the head, before turning the gun on himself. Paramedics were called to the scene but the woman died a short time later. The man was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Everyone was crying and one of the cafe girls saw it.

Brittany Stewart, her boyfriend was working inside at the time.

Detective Inspector Mark White said everyone involved was shaken by the incident. He confirmed the pair were known to each other, but would not comment on reports the man was the woman’s estranged ex-husband. “I am not going to go into the specifics of it because it is quite a graphic and tragic incident that has occurred and that is obviously the focus of our investigation,” he said. “We’re also looking at the CCTV footage that was available inside the premises.” It’s the third fatal domestic violence incident in Queensland this week.
