Brother of Oscar Pistorius in ICU after head-on collision

The 29-year-old brother of South African Olympic and Paralympic track star Oscar Pistorius has been badly injured in a head-on collision but his life is not in danger, a family spokeswoman said on Saturday. The accident happened on Friday night north of the capital Pretoria, where Oscar is on trial for the murder of his girlfriend. Carl Pistorius (pictured above) was returning home from a business trip when a car travelling in the other direction swerved in front of his vehicle.

We can confirm that Carl was involved in a serious car accident last night. Carl was badly hurt but we are thankful that he is out of danger.

Anneliese Burgess, Pistorius family spokeswoman

Carl was travelling with a companion but Burgess did not say whether he was driving or whether anyone else had been hurt in the accident. His brother Oscar is accused of murdering his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in the early hours of Valentine’s Day in 2013. The trial is set to resume on August 7 for closing arguments. Carl was acquitted last year on charges of culpable homicide over the death of a woman in a traffic incident in 2008.
