Four students killed as their bus collides with duck tourist vehicle on bridge

Four students were killed and 12 others were critically injured when their bus collided with a duck amphibious tour vehicle in Seattle. The victims were among 45 foreign exchange students heading to a baseball game when the accident happened on a busy bridge. Part of the left side of the bus was sheared off by the force of the crash. Bloodied victims crawled from the wreckage and were treated on yellow tarpaulins near the scene.

I got out of my car and there were bodies just everywhere. People lying in the street

The students were visiting North Seattle college, which hosts some 1,000 international students from 50 countries, including China, Korea and Japan. Witnesses said the duck vehicle, which derives its name from DUKW, the  six-wheel amphibious vehicles used by the US military during World War II, appeared to swerve and hit a four-wheel drive car before ploughing into the school bus. Tim Gesner, who was on the duck vehicle, said it started to fish-tail and he heard the driver say “Oh, no”.
