High-jinks: Teachers fall ill after scoffing pot-laced brownies left in staff room

Three teachers who scoffed a tray of brownies left for them as a treat in their staff room fell ill because they were laced with marijuana. One of them ended up in hospital where doctors asked if anything unusual had happened in her school day. After the 44-year-old told them she had enjoyed a “free treat” in the teacher’s lounge, the brownies were tested and found to contain marijuana. Now, police in the appropriately named Highland Township, Michigan, are investigating to see if the cakes were left as a prank or by accident.

She was hospitalized and a couple others also tasted it. They were sickened but maybe did not eat the same number of brownies. Maybe not the same amount.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard

The incident took place on Tuesday at Spring Mills Elementary, which has students from kindergarten to fifth grade. "We tested the brownie and it came back positive for marijuana, cannabis inside the brownie,“ said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. "So obviously you’ve got some serious charges. You’re not only tampering with food, but inducing a drug to the user of that food. I can’t believe somebody did this without telling somebody else.”

I’m glad a child didn’t get to them. Being a parent myself, I would be afraid for my child.
