I’ll put it on the shelf next to my Millennium Falcon: Room star, 9, wins film award

The nine-year-old star of the Oscar-nominated film Room stole the show from some of Hollywood’s biggest stars at the Critics’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles. Jacob Tremblay had to stand on a box as he accepted the best young actor/actress award for his role opposite Brie Larson in the film about a mother and her five-year-old son held captive in a small room for years. Dressed in a dark suit, he said: “This is super cool, this is the best day of my life. I first want to say thank you to all the critics who voted for me, it must have been super hard because of all the great actors in this category.”

Mad Max: Fury Road was the big winner on a night where film and TV critics honoured the best work on the big and small screen. The reboot of the dystopian action film scored nine gongs, including best action movie, a best actor in an action movie prize for British star Tom Hardy and a best actress in an action movie award for Charlize Theron. George Miller, who is responsible for the series, was named best director. Leonardo DiCaprio was named best actor for The Revenant, hours after missing out on a similar award in London, where his Titanic co-star Kate Winslet tipped him to take the Oscar at the fifth attempt next month.
