The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wasted no time winning over Mumbai locals as they joined a cricket match with Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar. Prince William and Kate - dubbed WillKat by local media - were at the Oval Maidan ground for a charity event on day one of their first trip to India. The pair faced the bowling of cricketing royalty Tendulkar, one of the world’s greatest ever batsmen, and met deprived children helped by local charities. Earlier, the couple met staff at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel – the scene of the 2008 terror attacks that left almost 170 people dead.
It is all vegetarian because I was told that was what they preferred.
Chef Raghu Deora
The couple laid a wreath with a message that said: “In memory of those who lost their lives and those injured in the senseless atrocities at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel." They heard first-hand accounts of the horrors of the attacks from the likes of hotel chef Raghu Deora, who was shot in the stomach and in the leg as he helped guests to safety. Mr Deora also cooked the couple’s lunch, which included a starter of vegetable kebabs and main courses including lentil curry with rice, ricotta cheese and okra. On Sunday evening, they are set to be joined by stars of Bollywood and sport for a charity fundraising reception.
