Super Bowl winner killed in road rage shooting after minor car crash

American football star Will Smith has been shot dead in a road rage attack after a car crash. The 34-year-old Super Bowl winner was shot several times as he argued with another driver who had crashed into his car. His wife, Racquel, was also shot in the leg in New Orleans’ Garden District late on Saturday. His death was described as “a senseless and tragic loss” by the New Orleans Saints where Smith played for most of his career as a defensive end.

Smith was killed after his Mercedes was hit by a Hummer H2, shunting it into the back of a Chevrolet in front. The father-of-three was pronounced dead at the scene, while his wife was taken to hospital. Police said they had arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of murder and a handgun was recovered. Smith played for the Saints for a decade, was in the team that won the Super Bowl in February 2010 and was considered one of their greatest ever defensive players.
