Parliament Hill reopens following Wednesday shooting

Parliament Hill reopened to the public Saturday, three days after the fatal shooting of a soldier at the National War Memorial and his gunman in the Commons Centre Block. Tours will resume in the Parliament building, which is still closed to the public, Monday. Speaker Andrew Scheer said RCMP presence will remain strong and visible near the entrances to buildings. Several Canadians, like Toronto teacher Franco Ferrari, came out in support.

I wanted [my sons] to see this. I wanted to show them that we will not be bullied.

Cpl. Nathan Cirillo was gunned down by a mentally-unstable homeless man with radical Islamic views. Michael Zehaf Bibeau entered the Parliament building where an exchange of gunfire began. He was eventually shot dead by sergeant-at-arms Kevin Vickers. Cirillo’s body was returned home to Hamilton, Ontario, along the Highway of Heroes Friday afternoon.
