Two U.S police officers shot dead in separate ‘ambush-style’ attacks

Two police officers have been shot dead in Iowa in what authorities have described as separate “ambush-style” attacks. Police said the two were sitting in their patrol cars when they were shot, and that there appeared to be no interaction between them and the assailant. One officer was found dead about 1am local time in Urbandale, a suburb of the state capital, local reports said. The second officer was found dead about thirty minutes later in the city.

In all appearances it looks just like that, that these officers were ambushed.

Paul Parizek, Des Moines Police Sergeant

“There is a clear and present danger to police officers right now,” Sgt Parizek said, at times becoming emotional during a news conference. “There’s somebody out there shooting police officers. We hope to find him before somebody else gets hurt.” Officers are now doing patrols in pairs to better protect themselves. Sgt Parizek said authorities were developing suspect information, but were not ready to share details with the public.
