BA hit by ‘global system outage’ as passengers face delays

British Airways passengers around the world are facing delays and long waits as the airline says it is experiencing a “global system outage”. The airline has apologised to passengers, saying it is “working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible”. Passengers on social media are reporting long delays and flights being held on runways. Some say they have been unable to check-in using the mobile app, and some said they missed their flights because of the technical problems. The disruption comes at the start of a bank holiday weekend and during half-term school holidays.

We apologise for the current IT systems outage. We are working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

It comes a day after passengers at Gatwick Airport faced chaotic scenes and long queues due to a baggage system problem. Those taking flights on Friday were forced to travel without their hold bags and were asked to carry any essential items in their hand luggage.
