Uruguay’s World Cup team were dealt a blow when Brazilian authorities confiscated 39 kilograms of caramel spread, known as dulce de leche, from them upon their World Cup arrival because it contained milk and needed sanitary documentation. Without the sweet treat to fuel them, Uruguay fell to a shock 3-1 defeat to Costa Rica in Group D—causing some fans to suggest the lack of dulce de leche was a factor in defeat, according to a report on the BBC.
[The Uruguayans could have the dulce de leche back] as soon as they can produce the necessary documents … Or they can pick it up on their way out of Brazil.
