Sweet: New York chef aiming for gingerbread house world record

Special materials are going into the most colourful New York real estate development: 1,610 kilogrammes of royal icing, 318 kilogrammes of candy and 272 kilogrammes of dough. That’s what Manhattan chef Jon Lovitch needs to build a gingerbread village complete with houses, trees, a skating rink, a hotel and even an underground subway station. Lovitch holds the Guinness record for the world’s largest collection of gingerbread houses. Lovitch was recognized by the 2014 Guinness World Records for last year’s production — 157 houses. So far this year, he’s made 900.

[My] kitchen and dining room look like Betty Crocker came in and went psychedelic.
