The perfect day: Man wins hot dog eating contest after successfully proposing

He may have fallen short of the world record he set last year, Joey “Jaws” Chestnut still had a pretty awesome day. The 30-year-old Calfornian not only won his eighth consecutive title at Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island in New York City, but had also moments earlier saw his girlfriend and fellow competitive eater, Neslie Ricasa say yes to his marriage proposal. The champion retained his mustard yellow belt after wolfing down 61 hotdogs in 10 minutes. Despite being well short of the record 69 he devoured last year, it was enough to beat challenger Matt “Megatoad” Stonie who only tucked away a measly 56. In the women’s division, two-time defending champion Sonya “Black Widow” Thomas lost her title to 28-year-old challenger Miki Sudo. Sudo wolfed down 34 franks and buns in 10 minutes while Thomas gobbled 27 whole hot dogs.
